My first attempt at pie…

So I baked my first pie a while back and once again, took pictures of it, so I’m posting the recipe and my results.  I found this recipe on AllRecipes. I haven’t had a lot of success with recipes I’ve found on AllRecipes so I pretty much steer clear of them now.

I used a store bought pie crust.  (This was prior to my obsession with making EVERYTHING from scratch).  I bought one of those double deep dish crusts.  Anyway, the pie turned out alright.  It wasn’t sweet enough for my tastes.  I feel like it was missing some spices or something or maybe it was the apples.  Or maybe it was the STORE BOUGHT CRUST.  Regardless, I wouldn’t make it again. I’ll go with a recipe that has a bunch more ingredients because…I like difficult.

My mother doesn’t like Martha Stewart recipes because she says they’re too complicated, too many steps, weeeird ingredients, etc.  I, on the other hand, seek out these way too involved recipes.  This, was not a difficult recipe.  What, like five ingredients?  COME ON.  Okay, anyway, the picture was pretty.  Don’t let it’s looks deceive you.  It’s not very good.

Easy Apple Pie for you folks who don’t like sugar.

Makes one pie.

  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Double pie crust

    Directions:
    Preheat oven to 450 F.
Wash, quarter, core, peel, and slice your apples; measure to 6 cups.

    Combine sugar and cinnamon.
Arrange apples in layers in pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle each layer with sugar and cinnamon. Dot top layer with small pieces of butter.

Cut your second my crust into even 1 inch strips. Attempt to weave them… (As you can see, my weaving was not exactly perfect). Seal the edges of your strips into the sides of the bottom crust. Brush the top with some melted butter so it’ll come out a pretty golden brown.

Place your pie on lowest rack in the oven. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 F and bake 30 to 35 minutes longer.

My recommendation, add a bit more sugar and top with some whipped cream, ice cream, all things sweet. The end.

PS: I made ANOTHER pie this past weekend and it was actually good. Soon to post. Soon soon. Adios.
