Not much about food. A lot of inner monologue.

January 24, 2009

Good Morning!

I went to bed kind of late last night — around 1:30 AM. That’s late for me. I got home from Andy’s around midnight and of course got sucked in to Wasted. I want to stop reading this book but I can’t seem to stop. It’s sitting by my bed taunting me. I brought home two of my other books hoping that I’ll get interested in one and give up reading Wasted. It’s messing with me. It’s making me analyze myself…but it’s addictive.

I have two $25 gift cards to Border’s so maybe I’ll go and actually buy a book. Honestly though, I’ve been saving them to purchase cookbooks and just haven’t narrowed down my choices yet. (Ina Garten’s new cookbook is on the short list.) I very rarely buy books though. I would like to buy every book that I read but that would be pretty expensive and I can’t justify the expense at this point in my life. So I library. The library downtown is only about a block away from my office and everyone is friendly and helpful there.

Anyway, it’s Saturday morning. I love Saturday mornings. I’m watching QED Cooks right now which sucks me in every Saturday morning and I end up sitting here for a couple of hours. Oh well. It’s Saturday. I’ll feel more guilty in the Summer.

I had oats for breakfast this morning. I thought about making eggs but the oatmeal with pumpkin was too tempting. It’s so good. (How many times have I said that?) It tastes like pumpkin pie but it’s full of fiber and vitamin A and it’s very filling.

They’re using egg rolls wrappers to make ravioli on QED. I want to try that. I almost bought them the other day when I was getting tofu but they’d likely sit in my cupboard (refigerator?) for a while with the rice papers.

On another note, I went to this site today Consume or Consumed which was just added to the Truespies line up and I’m addicted. It’s making me want to shop. I like like like the blog. Welcome!

P.S. I LOVE to hear Pittsburgh chefs pronounce French words. Hilarious!

Dinner. Pizza. With Squash!

January 24, 2009

First of all, I ate another blood orange and a yogurt when I got home from work to tide me over until dinner. Here’s the orange. No picture of the yogurt.

Well, we ended up making pizza again because I had another crust in the freezer and it was quick AND he found a recipe for Sage-Butternut Squash Pizza.
Run on sentence.

I had these two pieces:

So I stopped at the grocery store on the way over and picked up ingredients. OH MY GOD I just realized I forgot kitty litter again. AH. Well I guess I’m going out tomorrow to get it…

I got to his house around 7:15 and of course, sat at the kitchen table and complained about work while he did the cooking. Sorry Andy. I always do that.

The pizza included marinara sauce, mozzarella, fresh sage, butternut squash(!), shallots and gorgonzola. Neither of us had ever had shallots before and I don’t think Andy ever had gorgonzola so it was a bit of an experiment. The pizza ended up turning out really well. At first the gorgonzola seemed like it would be overpowering but the flavors kind of melded together into goodness.

The recipe called for 4 ounces each of mozzarella and goat cheese but I decided against the goat cheese. Leave me to purchasing the ingredients and that’s how it goes.

Here’s the pizza.

During/after dinner, we watched some weird show on the Create channel involving Mario Batali, Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Bittman…, and a pretty Spanish lady traveling through Spain and eating. Then we watched 21. It was good. It kept us both entertained for the entire 2 hours which is somewhat rare. I was pleased. Andy seemed to be pleased. It was a nice, relaxing evening.

I’m tired now. Don’t worry, the weekend will get more exciting soon.

Goodnight all.
