Project 365: Day 41 – 59

I’m getting pretty far behind on the project 365 posts. As I continue to get farther and farther behind, it becomes more difficult to get myself to get started on a post. Aaron is at band practice tonight though and the baby is sleeping and I’ve run out of episodes of Revenge to watch so here we go.

Day 41

Aaron finished the door trim on the kitchen door. Yay!

Day 42

We took a family walk because the weather was okay! This was February 11th I believe, so rare nice weather in Pittsburgh. Unlike today, March 18th, freezing rain!? Also, Sam doesn’t like the stroller now.. no good. Whenever I take him anywhere, he’s in the Ergo now.

Day 43

Sam’s first time in a shopping cart! Home Depot trip.

Day 44

We installed new lights in the kitchen and dining room. Prior to that light in the kitchen, there was just a dangling bulb hanging from it’s wire. Upgrade. Prior to the dangling bulb, there was a square fluorescent light with water in it that leaked from the tub. Fire hazard.

Day 45

Valentine’s Day and Aaron’s birthday! 32! Sam’s gift to Aaron was a picture of himself for Aaron’s new office. I got Aaron a paint brush(!) and a new travel coffee mug. We kept gifts small because we have plans of buying a bigger “family gift” in the Summer.

Day 46

Working on painting the dining room here. We painted it Ice Rink by Martha Stewart. We used the same color in the kitchen of our old house and I LOVED it there. We painted the kitchen and dining room in this house that color.

Day 47

Sleeping boy. He sleeps in his new car seat much better than the smaller one it seems. Plus we finally bought one of those mirrors so we can see him while driving. It was definitely, definitely worth it. I wish we would have bought one right from the start.

Day 48

I’ve been putting Sam in the Moby again when I’m cleaning up the house. He really likes it and it’s still comfortable for me even though he’s almost 20 pounds. I had packed it away because I thought he was too big but now it’s back.

Day 49

Aaron and I took Sam to a Gymboree class during one of the days of Aaron’s 2 week work hiatus.

Day 51

I started writing a post about cloth diapers and took this picture for that. I have to finish up that post. But there they are (12 of the 15).

Day 52

Knitting was going strong in February and then kind of died off in March. I still haven’t finished this scarf.

Day 54

Wedding! This was the first night we left Sam with Aaron’s parents to put him to bed. It turned out well! And it was good to get away from the baby for a little while. Even if I had to pump in the car between the ceremony and the reception.

Day 55

On our way to Cincinnati for Aaron’s new job training. 5 hour car right with the baby went surprisingly well. Sleeping in a hotel room with a baby definitely did not.

Day 56

Sam and I tracked down Trader Joe’s by our hotel and bought supplies for the week.

Day 57

We went to the Children’t Museum in Cincinnati the next day. Sam was pretty much too young to really do anything there but we wandered around and looked at things. Something to do.

Day 58

The next day, we went to a thrift store. It was the most amazing thrift store I’ve ever been to. It was HUGE and so cheap. Like each of those books above cost 9 cents! I also got those two jackets for Sam. Baby Gap down coat for $4. I love thrift stores.

Day 59

We spent a lot of time hanging out in the hotel lobby people watching. There was a power lifting conference going on in the hotel while we were there.

That brings me to March!

Painting, Canning and Baby Hangers

Officially 4 days until my due date. Still no sign of the baby. My little illness seems to be going away but I mostly just hung out on the couch today. I woke up to no water in the house this morning. Boo. I guess there was a water main break on our street so we were without water until around 3. I drove over to the grocery store and got some bottled water earlier today and a few other things. Mainly ice cream and cantaloupe. I’ve been on a cantaloupe kick the last few days.

I uploaded pictures from my camera today so here are a few other things that have been going on around here.

This was probably 1.5 months ago… Aaron and I painted our bedroom. I’ve been wearing a respirator for painting to protect the baby.

The color is kind of greyish purple. I’m not exactly sure if I like it or not but it’s staying put for quite a while since we still have TONS more painting to do.

We also bought a second car! Wooo. Sharing a car worked for quite a while with us but I didn’t want to be stuck at home every day while Aaron is at work once the baby arrives. So we have two Nissans now. We refer to them as Rusty and Baby Rusty. Ironic because they aren’t Rusty. So funny we are…

One of Aaron’s customers gave him a whole case of blueberries so I attempted to make blueberry jam for the first time. I wouldn’t say it went perfectly. It’s kind of thin and REALLY sweet. It’s more like blueberry syrup but I’ve still been eating it. We still have a ton of the blueberries in the freezer so I’m going to try again at some point.

Aaron finished up the nursery closet. This closet just had steps up into the attic but no bar to hang clothes or anything so Aaron hung two bars and two shelves in there. We don’t really use the attic for anything. I’ve never even seen it…but Aaron says it’s just a small crawl space.

The chain on the right door is because we installed a ceiling fan in the room then realized the door hit right into it when we opened it.

Here it is full of baby clothes and diapers.

Tonight is women’s gymnastics!!

Nursery/Bathroom/Bedroom Updates

It’s Wednesday evening. 7:18 PM. I just ate some pizza and green beans for dinner. I started writing this post about a week ago and never posted it. Mainly because I never actually wrote any words, just uploaded the pictures into an Ecto post. So here we go…

A couple of weeks ago, our Polish neighbor brought over a loaf of bread that she baked. It was great! Lots of seeds and things and it was still warm when she brought it over. Nice neighbors.

We also have been spending some time getting the nursery ready (only 8 weeks to go!).

Here’s the before picture of the nursery. Yellow walls, floors in terrible shape.

It’s still not finished but we’re making progress. We installed a new ceiling fan. The dresser is from Craigslist. I spray painted it white and spray painted the handles navy blue. The rug is from overstock. I also spray painted that lamp navy but still need to buy a new shade for it. I’m actually going to experiment with spray painting lamp shades this weekend. Not really sure if that’s going to work but we’ll see.

The blue picture frame is from a yard sale near to our house. The other two frames are from Ikea. I created a little nursery art in Powerpoint for those two frames. I’ll have to take a closer picture for next time.

Aaron started to assemble the crib but one of the pieces had a crack so we’re waiting for a replacement part. They said it should be here around the third week of June because it is back ordered.

Here’s a closer picture of the ceiling fan. It’s a small one for the tiny room. It’s 42″ across. I also ordered a roman shade in navy for the nursery which should be here in a week or so.

And here are some crib pieces. It’s white and “espresso” colored. The walls are very pale blue/gray.

I also started painting our bedroom a couple of weeks ago. It’s still only halfway done. I managed to paint two walls and i’ll hopefully do the other two this weekend. No more orange sponge paint!

The color is Glidden’s “pearl grey.” It actually looks sort of lavender in certain light though.

And lastly, lots of bathroom progress! We’re THIS close to being completely finished. The curtains were made from a shower curtain that I bought at Target on super clearance. It costs like $8 I think and was lined. I cut it in half, cut it to the size of the window then sewed all the ends and sewed a loop at the top for the rod.

The baseboard is in but still needs to be painted. We also installed the toilet paper holder!

We’ve come a long way from here!

Aaron and I have been visiting estate and garage sales the last couple of weekends so I have some more projects to blog about coming up. Have a nice night!
